Kells come from France, and 'Lueurs' was released in
2009. What we have here is what could be classed as Melodic
Gothic Metal, that would appeal to fans of Within Temptation,
Evanescence and the like, sung by the way in the band's
native tongue. Fronted by Virginie, Kells was formed in
2001 and this I understand is their second release. The
quiet and atmospheric instrumental 'Reminiscences' gets
the album underway, that then leads into 'Avant que tu...which
showcases Virginie's vocal style rather nicely, this track
giving us an idea as to what to expect on this cd. La sphere
(feat Candice de Eths) features heavier harsh vocals, while
Delivre-moi keeps the pace going - awesome techno style
synths at the start of this track too. Generally, the album
offers a similar mix thro the remaining tracks, heavy guitars,
awesome vocals and some Within Temptation style choral backing
at times. 'Le ciel', Ailleurs' and 'Sans teint' being three
of my favourite tracks, appearing towards the end of the
album. By and large, 'Lueurs' rocks, is melodic and rather
heavy. I quite like it!...8/10 (Reviewed by Aimee)
