“E.R.: The 14th Season”
Reviewer:
Wayne Klein
Studio: Warner Home Video
Genre:
TV-Series
Release Date:
1/11/11
Special Features:

Previews, outtakes, gag reel, Paley Center Tribute

Review:

The 14th season of “E.R.” appears on home video demonstrating that emergencies never stop arriving no matter how silly or absurd. What keeps the series relatively fresh are the performances by the cast. Having gone through almost all of the original cast members over the course of 14 seasons means that the performers keep us interested even if the formula does not. ---

Image & Sound:

“E.R.” receives a nice transfer for its DVD debut. It’s a pity that the show hasn’t shown up in HD yet but I suspect that will be a low priority for Warner with the amount of new TV shows and movie back catalog titles waiting in the wings for an HD home video release. ***

Audio sounds good with dialogue to the forefront. I wouldn’t exactly expect an active surround presentation on a show like this since it is primarily dialogue driven.

Special Features:

Kudos is due to Warner for continuing to release a series like this with special features. Most studios wouldn’t even bother after the fourth or fifth season of a long running show like this. ***

We get deleted scenes which are referred to as “Outpatient Outtakes” and are included for 13 of the 19 episodes of the season. We also get an amusing gag reel as well as a Q&A session from The Paley Center for Media. The Paley tribute focuses on the production of the 300th episode. ---

Final Words:

Long time fans won’t care what critical assessment I would make of this show. If you’re buying the 14th season you’re committed. I doubt that newcomers will be buying the 14th season as their first purchase of the show. If you’re a long time fan enjoy.
