Review:

In this Dramedy—what I like to call a good combination of Drama and Comedy—two jaded sex addicts stumble upon one another, and eventually stumble into bed together. Maggie [played by Academy Award winning actress Ann Hathaway] is living with Parkinson’s disease, and trying to accept the mortality of her life now shaped by illness. Jamie [Academy Award winning actor Jake Gyllenhaal] is a sex crazed pharmaceutical rep trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life, other than bone his way around town. Between these two nymphomaniacs a friends with benefits relationship blossoms, until life gets in the way.*** Determined not to have serious relationships because of her disease, Maggie pushed Jamie away in an attempt to protect her humanity and his emotions. As always, the notion of wanting what you can’t have drives Jamie back into the arms of his sickly lover, where they have sex and make up—per usual Hollywood love story.***

After digging themselves into a stereotypically perfect relationship, Maggie’s illness begins progressing, inviting depression and stubbornness on her behalf. Refusing to quit just yet, Jamie enrolls her in countless tests, procedures and studies in hopes of finding a possible cure for Parkinson’s, and curing their relationship of hardships.***

Special Features:

Extended deleted scenes/

An Actor's Discussion: Relationship between Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway/

Beautifully Complex: Anne Hathaway /discribes Maggie/

Reformed Womanizer: Jake Gyllenhaal is Jamie Selling Love & Other Drugs

Final Words:

Even though this film is filled with cheesy pick-up lines and gratuitous sex scenes, it offers comedic relief in the relationship between Jamie and his brother, and Jamie’s ridiculous existence in general. Ann Hathaway provides a radiant performance [as is to be expected] and Jake Gyllenhaal is talented eye candy.***
