Review:

"The Adventures of Merlin" is a period piece TV show showcasing Merlin's youth. It's one area that truly hasn't been touched on in the media (let's remember though that according Merlin he aged BACKWARDS so technically speaking were looking at his version of old age I suppose). As with all the BBC shows the production values are often outstanding. The scenery certainly adds character to the series giving it something that an American shot version of the same type of material would lack. ***

I'm going to skip the usual plot summary for the second season. I find that most folks interested in purchasing a TV series have already seen the first season or, if they haven't, they should. The young performers give uniformly good to exceptional performances although the formula of the series quickly becomes apparent. ---

Image & Sound:

"Merlin" receives a nice transfer although it could be improved upon. The 13 episodes have strong, bold colors but detail often gets lost during the darker sequences of the show. ***

Audio sounds quite nice with a solid 5.1 mix.

Special Features:

We get a number of commentary tracks for the show featuring the cast. We also get a 35 minute making of documentary entitled, imaginatively enough, "The Making of Merlin". It's a solid documentary on the making of season two. We also get "Secrets and Magic" which followed the various episodes giving us a brief glimpse into how each episode was tackled. Finally we get an introduction to the cast. We also get a photo gallery.

Final Words:

An enjoyable series "The Adventures of Merlin" will bring pleasure to fans of the first season.
