Review:

There is always a joy in the sound of a child’s laugher and the imagination held within the pure innocence putting a smile on anyone’s face. Children are the future and the clarity of life before adult influences taint them by greed and selfishness. This is the bliss that is found in the animated film Ponyo "On The Cliff By The Sea" a (Hayao Miyazaki) film which is similar to "Walt Disney’s Little Mermaid".***

This tells the story of a strong and loving five-year old boy named "Sosuke" (Frankie Jonas) living high on a cliff with his mother Lisa (Tina Fey) while his father is out at sea. One day he finds an adventurous and magical gold fish, he names "Ponyo" (Noah Cyrus). She is craving the need to be human after her curiosity pulls her away from her over protective and wizard father, Fujimoto (Liam Neeson) whom goes to extensive lengths to keep his children away from the surface. He believes the humans are destroying the ocean and he is cautious to let go of his children whom are still innocent and young. Not "Ponyo" she not only wants to see the surface but also live on it and to break free of "Fujimoto’s" control and the control of her beautiful yet fearful mother "Granmammare" (Cate Blanchett) who is the sea goddess.

Final Words:

Ponyo uses her father's magic to transform herself into a young girl and quickly falls in love with "Sosuke", but the powerful sorcery causes a dangerous break in the earth’s flow. This causes an imbalance to the flow of nature and human life placing her in a dangerous dream of who she is and whom she invents. It causes the moon to draw near the earth, the water to rise high over the towns and challenges the children to embark on an adventure of a lifetime to save the world and fulfill "Ponyo's" dreams of becoming human.
