“Scrubs: Season Eight” (Blu-ray)
Wayne Klein
Studio: Buena Vista Home Video
Release Date:
Special Features:

Bloopers, deleted scenes, alternate line readings, “My Bahamas Vaction”, “Scrubs Intern Webisodes”

Popular comedies are much more difficult to sustain than dramas. The behavior of the characters and chance for new situations in a “sitcom” often make it a challenge for writers. “Scrubs” is no exception to that rule. Luckily, the sometimes absurd situations that occur in hospitals (trust me on this there are plenty of them) make “Scrubs” somewhat immune to sitcom fatigue. ***

The eighth season of “Scrubs” after much squabbling appeared on ABC rather than NBC as a mid-season replacement. The show continues to be as funny and as touching as previous seasons with the new chief of medicine to be as callous and self absorbed as Dr. Kelso (Ken Jenkins) while, later, Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) finds himself up for the chief of medicine job himself in “My Cookie Pants” and J.D. (Zach Braff) finds himself inexplicably in a position of power at Sacred Heart Hospital causing Turk (Donald Fiason)to be a bit jealous. In other words once again “Scrubs” takes every soap opera hospital show on and pokes fun at its expense. ---

Image & Sound:

The eighth season of “Scrubs” looks extremely good in its Blu-ray debut. Detail is nice and colors pop. ***

The audio mix is quite nice here but keep in mind that outside of the “fantasy” sequences the soundtrack is focused on dialogue.

Special Features:

We get a nice variety of special features but no commentary tracks. “Scrubs Intern Webisodes” are included for added entertainment value (and they are pretty amusing). We get deleted scenes, alternate lines, bloopers and “My Bahamas Vacation” featurette.

Final Words:

Another amusing season “Scrubs” continues to prove that nothing is sacred particularly at Sacred Heart Hospital.
