Review:

Ouch. That’s for those of you who realized you aren’t a kid any longer. The truth hurts luckily “Spongebob Squarepants” will remind you of what it was like to be a kid again. Seriously it’s that funny. Surprisingly robust for a show that is nearly a decade old, “SpongeBob continues to be a hit on Nick and justifiably so because it’s one of the best written, smart and witty cartoons running this side of “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” (without the potty humor). ***

“Truth or Square” features four episodes of the series and an extended episode of the Krusty Krab’s Eleventy-seventh anniversary where Patchy the Pirate tries to line up stars to appear on the show’s tenth anniversary TV special. Episodes include “Truth or Square”, “Porous Pockets”, “Krusty Krushers” and “The Card”.

Image & Sound:

To be truthful, the DVD looks quite good with a nice transfer that compliments the eye popping colors of the show. Detail is solid throughout and black levels are consistent. Audio sounds quite nice with a 5.1 mix that although not completely active all the time does occasionally show signs of life. ---

Special Features:

Well blow me down (sorry wrong cartoon character—that’s Popeye) we get a nice assortment of special features including a “Behind-the-scenes” featurette on the opening of the show, Karaoke music videos and the extended “Truth or Square” episode.

Final Words:

A decade on and “SpongeBob remains entertaining, witty and just plain fun. It’s amazing what you can do with a flexible character (like a sponge)with the right crew of writers/producers and directors. Recommended.
