Review:

The Vampire Diaries are adapted from LJ Smith’s original books by the creators of Dawson’s Creek. They mix elements of shows like Buffy and Gossip Girls to create a teen high school drama with a twist, it’s got that must have feature of the moment, vampires. The series follows the story of Elena (Nina Dobrev), who has recently lost her parents, and the good vampire, Stefan (Paul Wesley). They find solace together in their shared love of writing diaries. However, Stefan’s brother is the bad vampire Damon (Ian Somerhalder) who causes no end of mayhem for the good people of Mystic Falls. They have certain powers, liking being able to change the weather and a magic ring that allows them to go out in the sun, and of course they can’t be seen in a mirror. The show also throws in some old favourite horror movie tricks like creepy music, loads of fog, and winged tombstones. The only downside is Elena’s younger brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) who’s decent into drink and drugs as well as his relationship with the equally degenerate Vicki (Kayla Ewell) is about as subtle as a stampeding elephant. One the real highlights is Elena and Damon’s dance to the accompaniment of the wonderful song ‘All I Need’ by the outstanding group Within Temptation, a truly captivating scene. Overall this is an enjoyable teen romp with plenty of eye candy for the girls to sink their teeth into.

Final Words:

Overall this is an enjoyable teen romp with plenty of eye candy for the girls to sink their teeth into.
